<printer description>
During printer configuration, using the PrintConfig graphical interface or the lprsetup program, you will be prompted to enter the name of a configuration file for the device that you are installing. This file is accessed during printer installation and configuration. It is not usually necessary for a system administrator to modify this file.
The file lprsetup.dat contains the configuration data for all printers that have special options supported by Digital UNIX. Although it is usually possible to configure any serial printer to provide basic text output, these configuration files enable special options such as support for PS (TM Adobe).
During printers configuration, using the PrintConfig graphical interface or the lprsetup script, you will be prompted to enter the name of the device that you are installing. Data from the printer configuration will be added to the file /etc/printcap as part of the runtime printer configuration record. For example, the /usr/lbin directory contains the filter files required for the printer. The printer configuration table will include a path to the appropriate filter and this path will be set as a printcap flag during printer installation and configuration.
The lprsetup.dat file contains the following fields:
A list of all known devices that are defined in this file. A short description of the printer. The string that identifies the device, from the table below. (This is usually similar to the name of the printer on the casing, such asd ln17ps A list of flags used to set printer characteristics in the file /etc/printcap. The entry for each printer contains a number of printcap_flag fields. Refer to the printcap(4) reference page for a description of the printcap symbols. One or more lines of text that provide a brief description of the device and its capabilities.
The following table provides a list of all devices that currently have a supported print configuration.
