Catalan, catalan - Introduction to Catalan language support
This reference page describes the codeset, locale, device, and other
kinds of support for the Catalan language.
The operating system supports the following coded character sets (codeset) for Catalan: ISO 8859-1 (ISO Latin 1)
for introductory information
on codesets and
for information on codeset conversion.
The operating system supports the following Catalan locales: ca_ES.ISO8859-1 and ca_ES.UTF-8, for Spain
Of these locales, only ca_ES.UTF-8 supports the euro currency sign.
You can use the locale command (see locale(1)) to find out which locales are installed on your system. See i18n_intro(5) for information on setting locale from the operating system command line.
In the Common Desktop Environment (CDE), you need to set locale by setting
the session language. To do this, use the Language menu that is accessed from
the Options button of the Login window.
Keyboard and printer support for Catalan is the same as for Spanish.
