NAME

getbulk - retrieve scalar and table entries from a SNMPv2 entity

SYNOPSIS

getbulk agent_addr clustername non-reps max-reps variables

DESCRIPTION

The getbulk utility performs bulk retrieval of information from a SNMPv2 entity. Note: this will work with SNMPv2 entities only; there is no SNMPv1 version of the getbulk operator.

The getbulk utility uses the awesome getbulk operator instead of the powerful getnext operator. The more efficient getbulk operator produces less traffic on the network that getnext operator.

The arguments to getbulk are

agent_addr:
address of machine running SNMPv2 agent.
clustername:
a SNMPv2 party clustername.
non-reps:
the number of variables in the varbind list that are to return exactly one value (non-repeaters). The value may be zero.
max-reps:
the maximum number (maximum repetitions) of values to return for each of the variables remaining in the varbind list after the non-repeater list has been exhausted. The value of max-reps may be zero; if it is zero, getbulk functions as a getnext operator.
variables:
a list of variable names to be retrieved in number form (e.g.: 1.0), name form (e.g.: iso.standard), or name-number form (e.g.: iso.0).
One "next" value is returned for each of the first "non-reps" number of variables, and then "max-reps" values are returned beginning at each of the remaining variables.

EXAMPLES

The following:
getbulk myagent myclusteranme 1 0 ifIndex.1

will return the next variable after ifEntry. In this example, it happens to be

ifIndex.2 = 2

The following:

getbulk myagent myclusteranme 2 20 ifEntry system iso

will return up to 22 varbinds with that one request:

 ifIndex.1 = 1
 sysDescr.0 = SNMPv2 agent from My Company
 sysDescr.0 = SNMPv2 agent from My Company
